GUFFAW COMEDY CLUB PROUDLY PRESENTS PHIL JUPITUS AKA PORKY THE POET WITH SUPPORT FROM PAUL MCCAFFREY
Phill Jupitus is Porky the Poet in 'ZEITGEIST LIMBO' - After the success of 2012's 'Twenty Seven Years On' Porky the Poet returns to Edinburgh with a collection of new poetry, and ponders the cultural conundrum; "How low can you go?"
Phill Jupitus will be known to many for his role on BBC2's Nevermind The Buzzcocks and QI. But what fewer know is that he started his performing career as a poet. He took his first full length show to The Free Fringe last year in Edinburgh, and also appeared at The Stoke Newington Literary Festival, Galway Comedy Festival, National Poetry Day 2012 at The Royal Festival Hall and is scheduled to appear later this year at The Laugharne Festival, Glastonbury and a return to The Edinburgh Fringe.

Arthur Smith
A huge laugh and a career that blends surrealism and one-liners in equal measure are Arthur Smith's signatures.
His immense humour, and willingness to laugh himself hoarse at others' jokes make him unusual in an industry eaten up by cool.
To BBC radio and TV audiences, his career has been split between appearing on top quiz shows and fronting the funny section in Loose Ends. On TV, he's been a regular Grumpy Old Man and Countdown wordsmith.
It's as a stage performer and writer where Smith's strongest talents make themselves felt, however.
He regularly produces material that's both surreal, and almost instantly cultish, as well as popular.
An Evening with Gary Lineker was nominated for an Olivier Award; his work has been set to music 'curated' by Stewart Lee, and his show 'Arthur Smith Sings Leonard Cohen' has since transferred to Radio 4.
Not to mention “Live Bed Show” which has a run in the West End starring Caroline Quentin and Paul Merton.
His Edinburgh standup routines see him interacting with the audience more than most, including taking them round the city pointing at its highlights.
Constantly keeping one foot in light entertainment and still pushing ahead with new ways to make people laugh is a great stretch, but Arthur Smith keeps pulling it off.
Arthur is a writer and comedian. He has written four plays including, “An Evening with Gary Lineker”, “Live Bed Show” which has a run in the West End starring Caroline Quentin and Paul Merton.
Arthur currently presents BBC Radio 4’s “Excess Baggage” for BBC radio and his ever-popular “The Smith Lectures” transmits on BBC Radio 2.
Arthur is about to record a new radio comedy "Arthur Smith's Last Hangover" for BBC Radio 4.
Support comes from the fabulous Grainne Maguire, Rory O'Hanlon and of course, your incomparable compare, Susan Murray.
Gráinne Maguire has written for “8 Out of 10 Cats”, “The Now Show” and “News Quiz”. She has appeared as a guest on R4's “An Idiot’s Guide” and on R5's “7 Day Sunday”.She has just supported Rob Delaney on his only London sell out dates.

MICK FERRY
"Awesome stand up” BBC
Manchester based Mick Ferry is renowned as a fine purveyor of lugubrious surrealism and has quickly established himself as one of the most sought after comics on the British and International comedy circuit.
One of the finest comperes around, at ease bantering with a crowd but with no shortage of first class dark and sinister material, Mick performs regularly at The Comedy Store in London and Manchester as well as headlining at comedy venues nationwide. Internationally he has recently appeared in Ireland, Dubai,
Singapore, and Shanghai where he has showcased his ability to pluck outstanding material from thin air in an apparently effortless manner.
Mick began his assault on the stand-up circuit in 1998 and quickly made it to the finals of Channel 4’s esteemed ‘So You Think You’re Funny’ competition. His stand up career has gone from strength to strength and he is now widely recognised as one of the most talented and promising stand-ups to have emerged from the North. Testament to this fact, he has been invited to perform alongside stand-up luminaries Johnny Vegas, Sean Lock, Peter Kay, Al Murray and Steve Coogan – having the honour of joining each of them as a special guest on live shows.
Mick was also a founder member of The Comedy Store’s weekly topical team show ‘M.E.N At Work’.
DAVE COHEN
Comedian, Perrier nominee in a previous century, and founder member of the Comedy Store Players, Dave - “A great comic talent” (Daily Mail) - is now chief lyric writer for the BAFTA and British Comedy Award-winning hit show Horrible Histories: “The true genius is in the songs, most by Richie Webb and
Dave Cohen, which have become playground favourites.” (Daily Telegraph)
“enjoyably daft lyrics by Dave Cohen” (The Guardian).
JOHN SCOTT
John first hit the stage as a stand up back in 1999 at the Stand Comedy club in Edinburgh, after taking part in one of the venues comedy workshops. Just three months he was asked to take part in his first Edinburgh festival run in the showcase Stand Up Scotland, a platform for the best new emerging talent from over the border.
In the same year John won the Spike Milligan award for new talent in Scotland and was narrowly squeezed by in the national final where the judges took over an hour to come to a final decision.
John has a disarming and friendly persona that chucks buckets of charm across the stage, which has made him popular across Scotland and the North of England.
Johns material merges everyday story telling, mixed alongside accurate observations, with a cunning ability to fire out several quick fire one liners.
"A Diamond in the rough" The List. "Members of the audience were quit literally in tears of laughter. A grungy mix of Billy Connelly and Aragorn." Edinburgh Evening News.
"Among the top five comics emerging from Scotland today." The Observer.
"Catch them live now before some savvy TV producer snatches them up." The Herald. "At the cutting edge of comedy." The Stage.

Support Act Juliette Myers
Compere: Susan Murray
Simon Munnery
Simon Munnery, also known by his stage names of Alan Parker: Urban Warrior and The League Against Tedium, is an English comedy writer and experimental standup comedian. He performs mainly to an alternative audience but has pierced the mainstream both with his BBC Radio 1 show in 1997 and his BBC2 television series, Attention Scum! in 2001.
Munnery's experimental style is reified through his sartorial appearance: his tragically unfashionable glasses, homemade clothes (or clothes apparently donated to him by comedian Jeff Green), makeshift props, and dramatic facial hair. As 'The League' he often dons a hat crafted from a kettle and one of his standup shows is performed entirely with a metal bucket over his head.
His standup is perhaps best described as often satirical, often political and almost always surreal. Munnery plays harmonica and his dialogue is full of quotable remarks, inviting comparison with Oscar Wilde, ("If you've only ever read one book in your life... I strongly recommend that you keep your mouth shut").
"Munnery is a genius, it's not up for debate" - Eddie Izzard
"One of the most original and talented comics in the country" - The Observer
Simon was the creator of Alan Parker - Urban Warrior - a self-appointed spokesperson for the dispossessed generation and prophet to the disconnected masses who seeks to smash the system with subversion, some placards and a spray-can. IN 1996, Alan Parker-Urban Warrior starred on ITV's Saturday Live and appeared in his own BBC2 show London Shouting which was written with Father Ted (C4) creator, Graham Lineham.
Simon enjoyed a two week sell-out run as Alan Parker at The Adelaide Comedy Festival.
The third and last series of Alan Parker's 29 Minutes of Truth (BBC Radio One) won the Sony Gold Award for Radio Comedy.
Simon was nominated for Best Television Newcomer for London Shouting (BBC2) at The 1996 British Comedy Awards.
Carl Donnelly
The multi-award winning comedian Carl Donnelly. he has been a comedian since 2005, has been nominated for an Edinburgh comedy award (formerly the perriers) and has also appeared on a number of TV shows including ‘mock the week’, ‘stand-up for the week’, ‘Dave’s one night stand’ and ‘Russell Howard’s good news’.
Juliette Myers
“Excellent” Tim Arthur, comedy reviewer TIME OUT. Managing to mix silliness with edginess, Juliet has a chatty style that allows her to interact with the crowd; this makes her much in demand both as a comedian and an MC.
She has been bringing her own brand of hilarious, cerebral, observational, gag –driven, (mostly gender non-specific), comedy to the stage for 7 years.
Susan Murray
Winner of the first ever Jongleurs Competition and a seasoned regular on the circuit, Susan has emerged as one of the best female stand-ups around. Susan is working nationally; Comedy Store, Jongleurs, Highlight, Up The Creek, Off The Kerb, Banana Cabaret, Comedy Café and internationally; Quatar, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, China, Indonesia, Germany, Luxembourg, Brussels, Ireland. Her versatility means that as well as Corporates Susan has handled Biker Festivals and music festivals including Glastonbury, Bestival, The Big Chill, Reading, V, Endorse It In Dorset, Download. Acting credits include starring in the TV comedy drama “Love, Lies and Lipstick” for ITV and Arthur Smith Sings Leonard Cohen (Pleasance, Edinburgh Festival and Garrick London).
Following writing and performing for BBC Radio 1 on ‘The Milk Run’ she received a writing bursary from the BBC. Other projects include writing and performing a 1 hour long show, 21st Century Fox (themed on the modern day phenomenon of internet dating). Susan was one of the writers on ‘Touch Me I’m Karen Taylor’ (Avalon for BBC3) and has toured the UK with Puppetry Of The Penis. Whilst writing for Radio 4’s ‘The Now Show’ she is also expanding her sell out debut solo Edinburgh Festival show about accents called ‘The Glottal Stops Here’ which is to tour theatres in 2011.
“A feisty comedy fireball of fun” Time Out
“If you only go and see one comedian in Edinburgh this year, make it Susan Murray you lazy b*stard” Jeremy Hardy
"Susan Murray is delightful from start to finish in this well-thought out hour taking on the topic of accents: their evolution; their assumptions; their sheer hilarity....the material uniquely witty and insightful" FEST ***
"If you know your glottal stops from your epiglottis then you’ll love this show. If you don’t, you’ll love it just the same. Sure there’s a bit of linguistics, but that’s just an excuse to fill the rest of this ripping show with a wry look at life (particularly Murray’s), the universe and everything....Murray works the packed audience with skill"
The Stage "Must See"
"She has the mentality of a spiteful 14 yr old boy! Very admirable in a young lady!" Arthur Smith
“Susan Murray’s baffled everywoman persona cloaks a dry, intelligent wit.” Stewart Lee
“Mainstream success written all over her….brightly energetic, a real talent” Edinburgh Guide.com.
Tickets are £8.50 or £7.50 conssession available in advance form wegottickets.com or on the door on the night.
See you there.
